Voice as Medicine: The Healing Qualities of Your Voice
Our original language is tonal.
Our human bodies naturally tone all the time, whether that be through yawning, sighing, laughing, crying, sneezing, burping, singing, humming, moaning, chanting, etc. Rudolf Steiner, Austrian philosopher, notes that vowel sounds, such as:
: AA
: AH
: Eee
: I (eye)
: Ooo and,
: OH
are tones of the soul and connects the soul with the physical body.
Our voice is pure vibration and because of this, it exposes a spectrum of our human totality through physical, psychological, emotional, mental and energetic patterns that either allow or block life force energy to flow in our physical and energetic bodies.
The Principle of Entrainment
reminds us that the sound of our voice is the best delivery method to help us rebalance our systems and bring about harmony and vitality at a cellular level. Our voice, when used in alignment with healing intent, is food and nourishment for our cells.
Voice + Brain Wave Patterns
Our voice alone can bring our brain wave patterns into a state of harmony and balance. Think of a group of buddhist monks, chanting in unison. Science has proven that when chanting, our brain wave patterns change. They shift from the every day thinking brain wave patterns (Beta Brain Waves) to a meditative state—Alpha Brain Waves and Theta Brain Waves— a trance like state. The human voice alone can shift our brain wave patterns to assist us in clearing energetic blockages and restoring balance into our being.
Scientific studies have proven that sound can produce changes in the autonomic, immune, endocrine and neuropeptide systems. Every atom, molecule, cell, gland, and organ of the human body absorbs and emits sound.
Entrainment to Earth’s Natural Frequency
The entire body, as well as our brain waves in a relaxed state, vibrate at a fundamental frequency of approximately 7-8 cycles per second. And guess what? Earth’s measured natural frequency is 7.83 cycles per second.
So, Alpha and Theta brain wave patterns, entrain our brains and bodies to be in harmony with Earth’s natural harmonic hum—which is the natural white noise and soundtrack of our collective human existence. When we spend time in nature, when we use our voice to chant or sing, we can shift our brain wave patterns to be directly bathed in Earth’s natural frequency, which brings us into a deeper state of internal balance and offers a space for healing to occur in our bodies.
Our voice alone can alter our state of consciousness and can align us with balance and healing or with disharmony or dis-ease.
Questions to Ponder:
What sounds, words, phrases, stories, mantras or messages are you communicating to your cells daily? Are they loving and positive? Are they compassionate, kind, peaceful or uplifting? Or, do they fall on the opposite end of the spectrum—unkind, hateful, degrading or shameful?
How is your voice, an extension of your soul, being used with others? Do you encourage, love, care and lift others up with your voice and soul expression? Or, do you discourage, judge, belittle, shame, manipulate or cut people down with your voice and soul expression?
Can you notice and become aware of how much time you’re giving your energy to these various energetic inputs? Are your dominate ways of being aligned in a way you want to show up, or do things need to shift and change?
Our physical bodies are constantly listening and responding to our tonal language—the frequency and sound of our inner dialogue, the frequency and sound of our feelings/emotions and all of our human sounds.
I invite you to play with the idea of using your voice to shift your emotional and brain wave patterns. Perhaps the next time you feel stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, you find 2-5 minutes to sit quietly and hum or sing any vowel sound: AA, AH, Eee, I (eye), Ooo and, OH. Play with your soul expression and voice and your ability to use sound as means of creating more balance and connectivity in all of your systems and in your relationships.
